Have You Seen Empowering Women?

While at Barnes & Noble a few days ago, I spotted a new magazine called Empowering Women on the newsstands.  According to editor in chief Deborah Heisz, the publication will focus on empowering its readers with "knowledge, strategies and confidence to help [you] achieve... in your professional, personal and family life."

According to their website, the magazine is focused primarily on fulfilling the needs of women involved with direct-selling and independent business building opportunities.  That said, the premier issue focuses on Avon, a company described as "a pioneer for women and a leader in the beauty industry for 120 years."  However, after flipping through this first edition, I found the articles interesting enough at a glance to make me want to see more.

Articles in the premier edition of Empowering Women include a piece about why home-based businesses are "A Better Option" for women who are asking "to work or not to work?"  (With direct sales being the primary business concept covered, of course.)  Several inspiring articles about women who have used their Avon businesses to build something great in their lives will leave you with warm fuzzies and ready to get out there and make something of your business (whether it's with Avon or not).

The "Bookshelf" page is going to be my tear-sheet for next week's library trip.  How can I resist a book list that includes Suze Orman's The Courage to Be Rich: Creating a Live of Material and Spiritual Abundance and Cynthia Kersey's Unstoppable Women: Achieve Any Breakthrough Goal in 30 Days?  There's also a large feature article about the history of Avon as a company and a guest piece by David Bach (author of Smart Women Finish Rich, which was of course on the aforementioned "Bookshelf" as well).  As I'm flipping through the magazine another piece has caught my eye..."Home Office Solutions"...you know being a home-based Workerette means I'll be reading that more closely.

In fact, I think I'll do that right now.  Let me know if you've picked up this premier copy of Empowering Women and what your favorite (or least favorite) articles are.  Are you an Avon representative?  Be sure to leave a comment here on Workerette so we can discuss your business building; whether you're a veteran in the direct-sales industry or with Avon, or are just starting out, you're sure to have thoughts to share with the rest of the ladies visiting Workerette!

Nice to see the magazine on this site.
I am lucky enough to have been IN the magazine.
So happy you are enjoying it!

Congratulations, Marie! You'll have to pop back by for a "Meet & Greet" feature about your business endeavors too!

I've tried to find this magazine--to read and subscribe to...and have been unsuccessful! I was able to find their website, but there doesn't seem to be a way to subscribe.
HELP!?!?!

I too was recently introduced to EW Magazine by a friend of my mother's, who just happens to be a BeautiControl VP. I have to tell you, I was enthralled and read the magazine cover to cover. I wasn't in the market to start a new adventure in my life but I found myself drawn to the ideals of the company so much that I called her later and said... sign me up! I've been looking for some sign for years or a direction arrow to show me where to turn... I'm excited to take a new path and see where it leads. EW is terrific! Tons of articles with information about the featured company but also for women in general. As women, we tend to focus on other's nurture nurture nurture, and forget about ourselves. This publication puts emphasis where it's been lacking... Learning to take care of the women (us) who take care of everyone else!

Anonymous: I just saw the current issue of Empowering Women over at my local Borders bookstore in the business/computing section of their newsstands. I suggest checking Borders or Barnes & Noble if you have one nearby. If they don't already carry it, ask to speak to the manager who works with the newsstand staff (some stores have outside companies who cover these things). Let them know that you want to see the magazine stocked so you can purchase it. They may even be able to get one from another store (or tell you which branch to go to) if they don't stock it right there, but someone else does in your area.

Angie, I'm so glad you enjoyed EW also. Sounds like it was a hit for you. Glad you found it supportive.

I'm not entirely sure if it's acceptable for a man to post a comment here, but I agree wholeheartedly with the comment from Angie Hansen. Empowering Women does indeed "put emphasis where it's been lacking... Learning to take care of the women...who take care of everyone else!"
My wife (Erin Casey) is the Editor of EW, so I have the privelege of seeing each edition as soon as it's released. This magazine contains plenty of information we men can learn from as well. Aside from great advice on home businesses, we can get a better idea of what our wives experience as Entrepreneurs and thus better support them in their endeavors.
A magazine such as this has been long overdue. To those of you women who are starting (or maintaining) your own business, more power to you!

I am looking for a copy of the Feb 2007 issue dealing
with Creative Memories Your life, your story, your way. Please respond here or to my email. Thanks. Marsha Medlin at angellady2k@hotmail.com

Marsha - I suggest you try contacting Empowering Women directly, via their website. I'm not affiliated with them in any way. I would assume that if they have back issues available for sale they would sell them via their site or a phone number you could find there as most publishers do. Otherwise, hmmm...my next best suggestion would be to try Amazon.com or eBay - do a search on the issue you're looking for on one of those.

Best of luck to you!
