While at Barnes & Noble a few days ago, I spotted a new magazine called Empowering Women on the newsstands. According to editor in chief Deborah Heisz, the publication will focus on empowering its readers with "knowledge, strategies and confidence to help [you] achieve... in your professional, personal and family life."
According to their website, the magazine is focused primarily on fulfilling the needs of women involved with direct-selling and independent business building opportunities. That said, the premier issue focuses on Avon, a company described as "a pioneer for women and a leader in the beauty industry for 120 years." However, after flipping through this first edition, I found the articles interesting enough at a glance to make me want to see more.
Articles in the premier edition of Empowering Women include a piece about why home-based businesses are "A Better Option" for women who are asking "to work or not to work?" (With direct sales being the primary business concept covered, of course.) Several inspiring articles about women who have used their Avon businesses to build something great in their lives will leave you with warm fuzzies and ready to get out there and make something of your business (whether it's with Avon or not).
The "Bookshelf" page is going to be my tear-sheet for next week's library trip. How can I resist a book list that includes Suze Orman's The Courage to Be Rich: Creating a Live of Material and Spiritual Abundance and Cynthia Kersey's Unstoppable Women: Achieve Any Breakthrough Goal in 30 Days? There's also a large feature article about the history of Avon as a company and a guest piece by David Bach (author of Smart Women Finish Rich, which was of course on the aforementioned "Bookshelf" as well). As I'm flipping through the magazine another piece has caught my eye..."Home Office Solutions"...you know being a home-based Workerette means I'll be reading that more closely.
In fact, I think I'll do that right now. Let me know if you've picked up this premier copy of Empowering Women and what your favorite (or least favorite) articles are. Are you an Avon representative? Be sure to leave a comment here on Workerette so we can discuss your business building; whether you're a veteran in the direct-sales industry or with Avon, or are just starting out, you're sure to have thoughts to share with the rest of the ladies visiting Workerette!

Nice to see the magazine on this site.
I am lucky enough to have been IN the magazine.
So happy you are enjoying it!
