While I found some fault in Glamour's piece this issue about the reasons it's great to be a woman at work these days, I can't find any in the inspiring article about Major Tammy Duckworth, who lost both legs in Iraq and now plans to run for a Congressional seat in Illinois. Admittedly I have some biases since I'm an Army brat myself, but this is the sort of story I'd love to see more of...this is a woman who is the epitome of courageousness.
Some folks might be a smidge put off by her sense of humor, but come on, admit it...her t-shirt reading "Dude, where's my leg?" does show she's tackling a potentially devastating situation with candor and strength. Reading the accounts of the attack Duckworth survived may not be easy on you either, but this is one article that I highly recommend all Workerettes read. We may never find ourselves in this sort of situation, but every one of us will face something huge in our lifetimes that we can learn from, if our attitude is in the right place.
If I were a Democrat in Illinois, I know who'd I'd be voting for.
