One of the things I always enjoy reading is articles where experts have chosen businesses or entrepreneurs and given them an overhaul or a push in the right direction toward more streamlined success. The February 2006 issue of Entrepreneur offers a neat article featuring three entrepreneurs whose businesses got the once-over from a group of experts.
Two of the businesses discussed are woman-owned. The first, SmartsCo, is owned by Julie Tucker, a winner of the "Make Mine a $Million" awards sponsored by Count Me In and American Express. The other is PoshTots, owned by Karen Booth Adams. (The third is Hosted Solutions, owned by Rich Lee.)
I found the approaches by the experts to be dead-on...interesting and insightful. I loved this comment from Jeffrey Davis (chairman and founder of Mage LLC): "All businesses that grow have a story...The more powerful the story, the more it draws people into the organization, because they feel a kinship between themselves and the organization."
Good food for thought for us all!
