Has anyone else received their copy of the February/March 2006 edition of Working Mother magazine yet? Is it just me, or does this issue look more like every other parenting publication out there and less like a magazine for the Workerette? While I'm all for a fun feature like "How We Met", turning this edition into the "Love Issue" is a concept I'm just, well, not in love with. Not to be harsh, but I'm disappointed in this issue.
Yes, the bras on page 34 create an attractive page layout, and the fitting tips are always a handy reminder. But do we really need page after page of products? Don't we get enough of that in the other parenting publications? Yes, I buy a ton of organic food and I appreciate the short piece on page 88 about whether organic food is "worth it" (an emphatic YES from this peanut gallery, folks)...but when I get my copy of Working Mother I want to see more articles like the piece entitled "Follow the Leaders".
I'm a working mom. Show me better ways to get my life in balance. I can research field trips virtually anywhere. I can pick up Family Fun, Parents, Parenting, Cookie or Child and get a gob of pictures of "stuff" to buy or have my Kidling spot and ask me to buy her. (Isn't that how it usually works out?) What I want, and need, is more tips and inspiration from the successful Workerettes out there, who are making the grade at home and at work.
(PS The "28 Stress Busters" featured on the cover could have been a little more original. C'mon...how many times do we need to be told to count our blessings and eat right? Again, I can find that in any parenting pub, thanks. I was really looking forward to something more from that piece.)
