Those of you Workerettes who are military spouses hitting the job market will be interested in the March/April edition of Military Spouse Magazine. A new online job-search tool, called, Military Spouse Job Search (MSJS), offers service members' spouses the opportunity to post resumes, use career assessments, and find information about self-employment.
Having grown up an Army brat myself, I am well aware of the emotional and financial issues a family can face when trying to adjust to a new location. Whether you are working part-time or full-time, you may run into employers who are cautious about hiring someone and investing in their training when they may "lose" you a few years later. Granted, in many fields turnover is higher than it was decades ago, with folks thinking a year or two at a job is a "long time"; gone are the days where it's standard to retire after serving one corporation for 20 or 30 years. It's always helpful, however, to know all your options, and to be able to gain access to employers who are not only willing, but actively seeking military spouses to fill their ranks. (No pun intended.)
