It's a day of recognition that does not get enough publicity in the United States, International Women's Day. It began in the early 1900's, as a chance for women to be able to have their voices heard on political and social issues. Many countries around the world hold celebrations and events to acknowledge women and their contributions to society. (For a complete history you can visit unorg eventswomen, or isisaust.)
I feel fortunate that I am a U.S. citizen, and that I do have the right to vote, the right to free speech, and that I have the choice to work, the choice to be a wife and mother. We might be overwhelmed at times, but if you really stop to think about it, that is a really cool thing! So on this day we should all think about our female family and friends, and recognize how our diversities make this world what it is.
Show your appreciation, say thank you to a female co-worker, call your mom or your sister, you can even send an e-card 123greetings, just because!
