Now this story from PROMO Magazine is one I just can't resist. According to the March 2006 issue that arrived in my mailbox yesterday, Harlequin Enterprises has teamed up with NASCAR in an effort to "reach more female fans and consumers though [sic] tales that weave the excitement of car racing with titillating love affairs." Apparently approximately 40% of NASCAR fans are female.
A new website has been created (GetYourHeartRacing.com) where fans can check out the new titles, which debuted in February 2006 and will continue to be released at a rate of one per month.
I want to scoff, but I just can't. One of my best friends is a NASCAR devotee (to the point of ignoring men's phone calls while the races are on!) and she just mentioned last night that she doesn't like to read. As a bibliophile, you know I'm gonna have to grab her a copy of the first book, entitled In the Groove, as a gag gift.
Who knows? She may enjoy it. And I might sneak a peek as well. All business books and no "fluff" makes one dull Workerette. Now, if they throw in a title about big Ford trucks with gun racks...I'm in!
