While looking over conference listings in The Writer I came across an entry for what I expected to be a public relations/marketing writing organization. Upon closer examination, it turns out that the National Federation of Press Women is open to women (and men) who work in fields across the communications spectrum. From public relations, advertising and marketing to graphic design and photography to print and electronic journalism, they've got it covered.
Apparently the organization is one with a lengthy history, too. Started in 1937, the group first had 39 members from seven states. They are now an organization with state affiliates nationwide. Their national and state officers come from across the country as well. Looks like they are actively partnering with groups that focus not only on women's issues but First Amendment and communication issues too.
If you'd like to learn more about the National Federation of Press Women or their conference (scheduled for 7 - 9 September 2006 in Denver, CO), pop on by their website. You can get the skinny about the conference, along with past conferences, here.
