The National Women's Council of Ireland is working to make Ireland a better place for women. The group's vision is the creation of a society where women can participate equally in all aspects of social and economic life. Being St. Patrick's Day, I thought I would give this group their proper kudo's because similar to St. Patrick, they are helping to convert "the barbarians" of our society to recognize women as equals, just as St. Patrick converted the barbarians of his time, to Christianity. (For the full history of St. Patrick's fight you can visit american catholic.org.)
The Council has been established for 30 years, and they work with over 150 different women's organizations and groups from all over Ireland. The group does things such as publish reports, produce press releases, provide education to raise awareness, and lobby the government.
The National Women's Council is recognized nationally for its work on issues such as work equality, women's health, poverty, childcare, violence, and educational disadvantage.
