Did you know that globally the number of women entrepreneurs is on the rise? According to this article by Rebecca Knight, the total number of women entrepreneurs worldwide is increasing, but men are still more likely than women to start new businesses. In high-income countries, entrepreneurial Workerettes are just as likely as their male counterparts to see their business survive beyond the 42-month mark.
Unfortunately, female entrepreneurs in middle-income countries were less likely to see their business continue that long. This is especially disappointing when we consider the statement in the article that these women started their businesses out of necessity (e.g. "they had no better options"). So if they had no better options for employment and income, what becomes of those women in business when their business failed? Did they start a new endeavor? Did they seek employment elsewhere? Sounds like some follow-up to watch for!
