Need to "meet" some inspirational women? Check out the series the Baltimore Times recently did in honor of Women's History Month. According to the first article, there are more than 120,000 women-owned businesses in Maryland. The Times chose to run pieces that give kudos to some of the many women in Maryland that not only run successful businesses but also contribute to the success of their communities.
In this particular piece, the focus is on two women in Marketing and Media. The first, Shelonda Stokes, intended to be a full-time mom but ended up as the CEO of her own media company. I love her comment that she "wanted to establish a business [her] children could work in." Another quote I enjoyed is from producer Sheila Brooks. She states that "women still face intolerable obstacles" in establishing their businesses, such as creditworthiness and access to capital. Just yesterday I saw an excellent post from Monica Flores over at SistersinBiz discussing how we gals can stick together and build up women-owned businesses while employing each other. Pop on by and read both of these pieces!
