2006 SELF Challenge

Okay Workerettes, how many of you got your RDA for calcium today?  How many are in college and battling the "freshman fifteen" (or graduated years ago and never lost it)?  Am I the only one who has noticed the trade off for working from home is not getting the benefits of walking across the parking lot each day before and after work?

Back in January I resolved to get fit.  Not because I wanted to lose weight, but because I wanted to build my endurance levels.  I did pretty well at first, doing sit-ups each morning (which was saying something for me...I'm a pretty sedentary gal).  I was happy with my weight and my proportions, I just wasn't happy with my fitness level.

Fast-forward three months, a new career as a freelancer (read: STRESS!!!), and a new relationship which has been enjoyable but has meant going out on dates at least once a weekend, if not more frequently.  I tried to ignore the tightening waistband (don't you hate it when your jeans shrink?) and stuck with my standard regimen (which entails sucking in my gut if there's a man in the room).  My energy levels have been dipping though, and I just don't, well, feel "well".

Can't ignore it any more though.  I was at some friends' house last night for dinner and they happen to be super fit folks who own a scale that works (unlike my own, which when stood on properly will tell me that I weigh either 83 or 257 pounds).  I wasn't real thrilled when the properly working piece of equipment informed me that I haven't put on a couple of pounds, but almost ten.  EEP!  No wonder I don't feel so well lately!  Not only am I sitting at my desk for longer, I'm also feeding my face.  AND going out to eat (and yes, drink) a couple of times a week?  AND back on way too much soda (which I had sworn off for water for a good six months there)?

Y'all...I admit it.  There's a reason I don't feel so hot and it's because I let myself slip.  It's not about weight, it's about health, and mine is slipping again...so I've signed up for the 2006 SELF Challenge sponsored by SELF Magazine.

Anybody else doing the SELF Challenge?  Let me know your user name so we can be "workout buddies".  Whether you want to lose weight, lower your cholesterol, build your strength or up your endurance, maybe we can work on our Workerette Wellness together!

» How Do You FEEL Today? from SmallBizMentor
Every year tons of people I know resolve to lose weight, exercise, start eating right...and none of them make it past the first month or so.  I've never bothered to even make such resolutions, until this year.  Back in December... [Read More]
