Kids and a good night's rest go hand in hand. I know if my son does not get enough sleep he's a bear. So why do they give us such a hard way to go when it's time to get ready for bed?
USA Today printed a story that emphasizes the importance of developing a consistent bedtime routine that will help calm your child and make bedtime battles a thing of the past. Jodi Mindell of the National Sleep Foundation says kids that kids with good bedtime routines do seem to get more sleep, and parents should try to make it a point to start the routine at the same time each night.
Some quiet activity suggestions that will help children wind down are baths, brushing teeth, reading stories, doing puzzles, saying prayers or coloring.
Bedtime at my house used to be chaos. But we did develop a routine of watching a little television after dinner, bath, picking out stories, reading, and saying goodnight. My son actually looks forward to story time some nights because this is a time when we're both calm, and we can talk about the stories and have quality interaction time.
