A few weeks ago I clipped out an article from a women's magazine titled "7 Empowering Moves You Can Make Right Now". As I performed my weekly corkboard clean-up tonight, I realized I don't remember what publication the clipping came from and I already frequently make several of the moves they mentioned...into the recycle bag it's going.
It got me thinking though. With Mother's Day coming up, I'm seeing a lot of websites and marketing blurbs mentioning how women can indulge, pamper themselves, or be pampered by those who love them.
Since this will only be my second Mother's Day without a spouse who some will expect to spoil me (not that I would argue, but I dare say it's not fair to "expect" or demand it!), I've tried to think of a few ways I could indulge myself without feeling guilty about spending money or time better spent on my Kidling, family or friends.
Here's what I've come up with so far:
- Art appreciation: I've decided to rotate out the artwork my daughter creates weekly. By cutting the 'fridge display down to two pieces, and only two pieces, I find I appreciate her hard work (and my cleaner fridge doors!) more.
- Have a cuppa. Tea, coffee, ice water, Ovaltine, whatever...just make sure it's something you enjoy, and take a few minutes to enjoy it. Don't gulp it down. Sit down, rest your feet, and have a nice drink while the world revolves without you for a moment or two.
- Clean the mirror in your bathroom. Strange that I'd say that, isn't it? But if you're not able to get to everything every day, taking a minute to wipe the mirror off will at least remind you that those big white blobs were toothpaste, not some form of adult acne. And something will be shiny and pretty next time you walk in...not just you!
- Plant some flowers. Yes, this can be done in five minutes. Next time you're at Target, look in their $1 aisle for miniature pots. I just saw them yesterday, and boy, do they look fun. Sunflowers, tomatoes, several options. And if you've got Littles at home, they can help.
- Stttreeetccchhhh. Yep...give yourself a five minute break and just stretch. Like a cat, like a dog, like a worn-out Workerette. There now...don't you feel better?
