Ready to meet another one of your fellow Workerettes? This week I've got responses from home-based Workerette Jessica Harvey, founder of TheHomeCast.com and independent contractor for Once Upon a Family. Jess is also the homeschooling mom of two children, so she understands the trials and triumphs involved with working at home and raising a family.
Maine Workerettes, take note of her comments regarding building a team in central and northern Maine! Check out Jessica's websites. If you want to get in touch with her, drop her an email at Jess@TheHomeCast.com. Those of you working in industries related to "all things home" should get in touch with her as well...she's open to cross-promotion!
* Please describe the business you operate or service(s) you provide to clients and customers.
TheHomeCast: TheHomeCast provides support and friendship for women by covering a number of different topics surrounding "home." These topics include cooking, small business, homeschooling, healthy living and more.
Once Upon a Family: The mission of Once Upon a Family is to help families start simple, meaningful family traditions as well as providing beautiful heirloom products. In addition to my website, I am available for home celebrations and speaking engagements. One of the things I enjoy most about working with OUAF is that my home celebrations aren’t all about me telling potential customers about products, but rather all of us sitting around sharing traditions that we honor with our families.
* What was the inspiration, or the catalyst for, the creation of your business endeavor?
Once Upon a Family: I am privileged to be a stay-at-home mom to my two children. However, part of the privilege includes sacrifice regarding living on one income. Having previously worked out of my home I knew the struggle of balancing family, homeschooling, and work all from home, and the unfortunate overlap that can sometimes take place. I wanted to be able to bring in some extra money; however I wanted to truly be able to set my hours, and help people. When I first saw OUAF’s website I was bowled over by the beauty of the products and the mission of the company. As a former scrapbooker I cherish the time that I put into albums, and love being able to look back at a snapshot in time. However, I know the time and money that can go into the hobby. For me it became too much and I had to step back. Looking at OUAF I saw the thing that I had loved about scrapbooking: beautiful products that were works of art, and an appreciation for the brevity of time. It is important it is to take the time we are given, use it for all it’s worth, and do all I can to remember this time together.
