Michelle Dunn, author, speaker and one of my fellow Know More Media "blog-hers", has plenty of information to share with us Workerettes! Let's get to know her better:
- Please describe the business you operate or service(s) you provide to clients and customers.
- What was the inspiration, or the catalyst for, the creation of your business endeavor?
I have written 6 books in my "Collecting Money Series" and the "Ultimate Handbook of Credit & Collections" being published by Entrepreneur Press in August. I also provide a free networking group and website for business people who are in the debt collection industry and own businesses where they are having trouble getting paid.
I was a bill collector for 17 years, I started and ran my own collection agency for 8 years and there was a demand for the books I write so I sold my agency to write, consult and speak full time.
- What steps did you follow to build your business? Are you still in the process of planning your endeavor?
I had a business and marketing plan, I don’t think it ever ends!
- Please tell us about the resources you’ve used thus far and would recommend to others (or steer them away from). Take a moment to share your educational background (both academic and work-based) and point out things that have helped or hindered you along the way from that education.
I have used a lot of online websites and read a lot of books about my industry, marketing and being successful. I have taken classes and teleseminars as well. I would recommend people try to find a mentor, and learn from those who have done what they want to achieve. Networking is one of your biggest tools in being successful.
Never stop learning and growing, whether you take classes online, teleclasses or in person.
