Today in Washington D.C., the AARP Foundation is launching the Women's Leadership Circle (WLC), a unique organization made up of diverse women from across the country. The mission of WLC is to raise awareness of issues faced by women as they age and to create initiatives to improve and enhance women's lives as they grow older.
The AARP conducted a survey to get more insight on issues that women 45+ are faced with, focusing on economic security, health and society's image of aging. The survey found 62% of women don't have a long-term spending plan for when they retire. Also, 90% of respondents said they would rely on Social Security to some degree as retirement income. My thought, what if there is no Social Security?
On health issues, nearly 3 in 10 women replied that having to care for other people leaves them with little time to care for themselves. The majority of women, 58%, replied they were more likely to exercise if they had a friend to exercise with them.
It's good news in the category of image. 65% of women surveyed said they consider themselves to be happier now than they have ever been, which deflates the myth that the older women become, the less happy they are.
So be on the watch for the WLC. I'm sure it will prove to be another great resource for women!
