Pregnant and worried about weight gain, or proper diet? You're not alone. Today, doctors not only criticize weight gain, but they have new restrictions on certain foods to avoid all together.
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists says pregnant women that may contract Listeria Poisoning during pregnancy are at higher risk for miscarriage, stillbirth, and birth defects. So they say to stay away from foods such as unpasteurized milk, deli meats, hot dogs, and soft cheeses such as Feta and Brie. Another concern is Mercury contamination which can be found in fish such as shark, swordfish, tuna, king mackerel, and tilefish. Doctors also remind you to make sure meat is cooked thoroughly to avoid E-Coli.
The American Dietetic Association recommends using the USDA's food pyramid as a guide to make sure you eat foods that will give you and your baby the proper nutrients, without gaining too much weight. It sounds so reasonable, but when you're craving that Big Mac and fries, it's hard to think logically!
