Have you been considering switching from full-time to part-time work or aching to head home entirely, or strike out on your own on an entrepreneurial dream? It seems that every time a colleague mentions doing any of the above, money becomes the primary reason for "not" striding forward with the idea.
Most of us know, deep down, that a firm financial foundation will allow us to pursue a lot more than a fancy pair of shoes or a new car. It will also give us a feeling of safety, security, and the enjoyment that comes from preplanning. And who knows...starting a business or cutting back our hours! If that's what is in your cards, you can find income in one of two ways: you can earn more or you can spend less (and more wisely).
How can you earn more though? You'd have to a) work overtime, b) earn a promotion, c) get a job offer for a higher-paying position, or d) create income from other endeavors. Most of us can't control the first three, but there's plenty of information out there for those who want to do the fourth. Affiliate ventures, eBay sales, independent consulting positions for various companies...we'll cover them all sooner or later. But they mean more work, at least at the start, and since it's the weekend, let's focus instead on less work and saving. After that, we'll move on to some thrifty ways to splurge on yourself and your family so you don't feel totally shut down or shut out of your own checkbook!
