Adult acne is a common problem that leaves a lot of women embarrassed and can cause anxiety. The American Academy of Dermatology says the cause is usually hormonal, linked to androgens, which are oil glands and hair follicles in the skin. Doctors say occasional flare-ups during pre-menstrual periods, or during times of stress are normal and can be treated with certain birth control pills. For more frequent occurrences, doctors recommend seeing a Dermatologist that can prescribe other types of medicine that is helpful.
I know I have a tendency to want to scrub away the acne and oil but I've read that scrubbing is not good for your skin, and that women should use mild soaps and cleansers, and wash gently because scrubbing can irritate the skin and make acne worse.
The AAD recommends using soaps that contain glycolic acid or salicylic acid to get rid of the oil. Does anyone know of a reasonably priced product that gets good results? All of the products I've pulled up on-line are very costly.
