Last year, thanks to my former employer, I got to do some traveling to places I hadn't been before. I hit Las Vegas, L.A. and Knoxville, TN, all in one year. Having grown up an Army brat, I've been known to get the urge to roam, and last year's travel plans only built up my appetite for more...more packing, more airplanes, more hotels...more!
I recently made some decisions about my life that will lead, ultimately, to making this goal of traveling more, so seeing a magazine today called travelgirl was like a bull seeing a matador's cape fluttering in the breeze. I do believe I actually lunged toward the newsstand to snatch up the sleek publication. With a tagline of "savvy, sexy & sophisticated" (okay, what woman doesn't want to apply those words to herself?), it seemed interesting. travelgirl touts itself as offering "lifestyle trends and fabulous journeys for today's woman". Well, I for one could use a fabulous journey. How about you?
Even better are the cover features; articles about Hong Kong, Africa, Bangkok, the Grand Canyon...ooo, only one of these was on my list! This will give me something to think about, as will the "Necessary Reading" article about breast cancer and who's at risk for it. I'm expecting that the piece that will introduce me to "what Donald Trump won't leave home without" will probably be something outside of my budget, but then, I'm not a Trump-aholic so I don't mind. (Now if they said Martha Stewart, I'd probably want it, whatever "it" turns out to be.)
So far, I've only had time to flip through this glossy pub, but it looks awfully nice. Some gorgeous photos, some a little "artsy" for my taste. The one downside is that a lovely shot of old postcards turned into me spotting not one, but two typos in one sentence on the last page. The editor in me got a little irked, especially since one error is the name of a character in a very popular book series. (travelgirl editorial team, email me if you see this and want to know where the problem sentence lies.) I'll stay positive though, because this mag really does look groovy. At the very least, I'm betting they'll introduce me to places I hadn't considered traveling to or staying at; let's hope there are plenty of tips for mommies traveling with their Littles too!
