
The Women's Bureau of the U.S. Department of Labor has some very interesting statistics for the 21st century. By 2014, women are projected to account for 47% of the workplace, almost half. The department reports the largest employment gains will take place within professional and service related occupations.
Sixteen of the 30 jobs with the fastest growth are in the health field, and 6 are in the computer field. Occupations in environmental services and education are also growing. In 2004, the highest paying jobs for women included:
- Pharmacist= $1,432 weekly
- Chief Executives= $1,310 weekly
- Lawyers= $1,255
- Computer & Information Systems= $1,228 weekly
- Computer Software Engineers= $1,149 weekly
Also in 2004, secretaries and administrative assistants topped the list of occupations women held with 2,570,000, followed by school teachers. Pharmacist's, the highest paying job, there were only 72,000 in 2004.
