* What challenges have you overcome during your endeavor? Please describe something that impacted you financially or intellectually and how you got past it.
I’ve had a hard time believing I’m worth my hourly rate. I still have this fear that if I don’t take every client that comes along, I won’t make enough money to keep going. I’ve it found the opposite, however. The more I raise my rates, the better the quality of the client and the more respect they have for my work. This is still something I am working on.
* What accomplishments are you most proud of during your career? Has your business or product won any awards, mentions in the press, garnered praise in reviews or by users, or helped someone overcome a challenge of their own? Tell us about it!
I’ve been asked to speak about using Blogs as a Marketing Tool at a local women’s event, before 80+ women. Five years ago I could barely leave the house because of anxiety attacks, now I not only go new places and meet new people all of the time, but I will be speaking in front of my professional peers. That just blows me away.
* Without spilling the beans, what is in the works for your business or product line for 2006? Where are you headed, and where do you hope to be by the end of the year? What about the coming years? Share your goals with us and tell us how you plan to achieve them.
Besides my tech column, which I will start pitching for this month, I am looking at "technical mentoring", a tech support/class for non-technical business people where we meet online, with a shared desktop and I help them integrate tools into their workflow. I’m also thinking about a book in the long term.
* Have you worked with a mentor who has led you far? Take a moment to recognize their contribution(s) and we’ll all applaud with you!
My husband is really my mentor. He has supported me emotionally and financially while I learned to be a businessperson. He also gives me advice that he knows I need, even though it might upset me.
