Do have a business plan, and do review it once every quarter to make changes to reflect the current situation. Do charge what you are worth, not undercharging because you think being "new" offers less value. I have a degree in business administration, certificate in image consulting, and certificate in advanced color analysis. I also took an entrepreneurship course offered by the government of Canada.
My business degree was great – although in the beginning when I was a fresh grad, I was too much into analyzing everything and didn’t use enough of my intuition – the intuition that I had when I was a kid got buried in the educational process. So I say, always trust your gut, you can always prove it with analysis afterwards.
My career before image consulting was marketing and general management. I’ve worked at one of Canada’s largest banks, a computer hardware wholesale company, and managed my own soap business. The path began with what my education trained me to do, and ended up with what I like doing even though my family did not support me in that direction. It was a different call than what they expected.
