I couldn't help but crack up when I read this article in the UK's Observer about the "Wendys" in the BBC2 version of "The Apprentice". With all the other acronyms out there, I'm surprised I hadn't heard this one yet: Women Entrepreneurs with No Degree.
I love it, frankly. More and more we see women, especially moms, striding forward and using life experience to build successful lives and businesses, rather than allowing themselves to be held back by a "lack" of credentials from an educational institution. At what point did we forget that our foremothers created home-based businesses during the colonial and Victorian eras with much less than the equivalent of a college degree?
I think it's unfortunate that in the end, two women are being pitted against each other as though it's a catfight where one will "take down" the other; on the flip side, though, I can see where women will be pleased that the two finalists are females. The interesting point to me, however, is simply the difference between the "biz school" mentatility and the "street smarts" one. Neither way is right or wrong in certain situations, but it is surprising and delightful that things have ended up this way!
