In Yahoo News today, there is an article about a 63-year old British woman who is seven months pregnant after receiving in vitro fertilization. I'm all for women's rights, but is it fair to that child? To top it all, the woman is a child psychologist in England.
She is still married, and her and her husband say they are delighted and are fully aware of their responsibilities. They say they are confident she has at least another 20-25 years left to live. How do they know that? And so they may be alive, but how healthy will they be? What about those every two hour feedings, and all the bending and picking up the baby.
I work with senior adults everyday, some healthy, some not. I am an advocate for senior citizens, but this is just ridiculous. When the child is 10, mom will be 73! An average 73 year old, who is considered healthy, may have some early stage dementia starting, they have arthritis, blood pressure and cholesterol issues, vision problems, and these are the seniors that are considered healthy. I just don't know who they're kidding if they think they are really going to be able to give this child the proper quality of life.
