Have the day off and looking for some entertainment after the cookout? How about a movie to remember why you have the day off. As we honor our veterans and those who are currently fighting for our freedom, let's take a look at how Hollywood has recognized some of our hero's:(taken from list on about.com)
- Sergeant York (1941) Gary Cooper won an Oscar for his portrayal of the title character in this biopic about America's best known World War I hero.
- Pork Chop Hill (1959) This grim, fact-based film chronicles the taking of Pork Chop Hill in April, 1953, near the end of the Korean War.
- Platoon (1986) This film is violent, disorienting, and a brutally realistic depiction of the horror of war, focusing on Vietnam.
- Saving private Ryan (1998) Steven Spielberg's tribute to the American soldier of World War II.
- We Were Soldiers (2002) this emotionally engaging movie centers around a historic Vietnam War battle and preserves the tone of Lt. General Harold G. Moore (Retired), and Joseph Galloway's book.
Personally I would like to thank all who have served, are serving, and will serve our country (and their families), protecting the freedom's of the American people. Stand Proud!
