I've never been much of a believer in resolutions, although this year I did make a few since I was going through some pretty big life changes. Of course, as Murphy's Law (or Murray's Law, in my case) would have it, we're halfway through the year and I haven't even made it halfway through my goals. Since I'm bucking the temptation to just give up and not bother, I've decided it's time to re-evaluate my goals and consider starting over with more concrete plans to achieve them.
Conveniently enough, today was library day and also my birthday. One of the books I spotted was Debbie Ford's The Best Year of Your Life: Dream It, Plan It, Live It. Here's what drew me in:
"Right now, you have a choice. You can make this year, this day, this moment a demarcation and declare that this will be the best year of your life, or you can continue down the same old road you've been down so many times before. This book provides a simple, life-changing, and proven process that will allow you to create, starting today, the best year of your life. ... Whether you begin this journey on January 1 or on your birthday or on some Sunday in October, today you have the power to make this the beginning of your finest year yet." ~from the Introduction, pg. xviii~
Ford starts with a section called "Dream It", which discusses creating intent, exposing fantasies and more. The "Plan It" section starts you out on a clean slate, helps you figure out your "No-Cookie Zones" and get the year planned. The final section, "Live It", helps you find impeccable integrity, teaches you to claim the moment, and creating an example of your own life.
Since I'm not one to believe in coincidence, I can't help but think this is a tool I'll be able to use, starting with a clean slate and a new year to grow (both mentally and emotionally, and, well, chronologically too). Sound like an interesting concept? Ford offers a free newsletter and downloadable worksheets to go with the book over on her website, BestYearofYourLife.com.
