The Christian Science Monitor has an interesting article by staff writer Linda Feldmann about the "wave of women candidates" hoping to head to Washington through upcoming elections. The focus of the piece is on women Democrats aided by EMILY's List, a group that describes itself as "dedicated to taking back our country from the radical right wing by electing pro-choice Democratic women to federal, state, and local office."
According to the article, when voters are unhappy, they appear to look for anyone who is willing to implement change, and they trust women to do that. Analysts are apparently comparing the current political climate to 1992 elections, with potential for 2006 to become a "mini year of the woman". The key here is that each of us should sit down and diligently research the candidates in our local and regional elections and decide where to provide support. Women can be movers and shakers at many levels of politics, no matter their party affiliation. This is another year to make sure we do our best to choose the right candidates for various positions, and above all else, to get out there and VOTE.
