A Workerette's Wellness:Are You Healthy For Your Age? Your 20's!

Here is some great advice from women to women in their 20's.  (You can find the full editorials on ivillage.)

  • Start a good exercise routine now because it only gets tougher as you get older.
  • Take time for yourself.  Start "me time" now so it becomes an expectation in your routine.
  • It's easy in your 20's to fall asleep with your make-up on, eat pizza at 11:00 pm, or only get 4 hours of sleep and have to function the next day.  Try not to let that happen too often because your skin needs proper care, your metabolism slows down, and life responsibilities require at least 8 hours of sleep.
  • Stress.  Because you see hard times but don't have life experiences to help make decisions, it's harder to see the light at the end of the tunnel.  Suggestion is to cultivate the "big picture," will it matter in a year?  Do you really need to spend $3,000 on a big screen TV, or could that go for a down payment on a house? Trying to decide on a job..will it make a career or is it a dead end?  Try and think of the long-term effects.
  • Don't blow off your aches and pains.  If you have an irregular menstrual cycle, get it checked out because it may have long term effects.  Just because you don't want a baby now, doesn't mean you won't when you're in your late 20's.
  • Before you leave home sit down and get your medical history.  You'll need it when you go to the doctor.
  • As a 30-something, my suggestion for those in their 20's is don't settle and don't make excuses.  If you have a question, find the answer before you make a decision.  Also, financial decisions can have an impact on the rest of your life.  They won't excuse your $10,000 credit card bill just because you were a struggling college student.  That will reflect negatively on your credit score, which will have a big effect on your future buying potential.  So if you can, start saving now.  Allocate a certain amount, even if it's only $10 a paycheck, to be taken out of your check.  You won't miss it if you don't see it!
