Ediets posted an eye opening article on the cold, hard facts of soda. A 1997 USDA study showed Americans spent over $54 billion dollars to buy 14 billion gallons of soda, which means on average each American adult and child consumed 576 cans per year. Carbonated soft drinks account for more than 27% of beverage consumption in America.
Another disheartening fact, after age 10, soda is the most commonly consumed beverage among kids. Not only does soda have calories, it has no nutrients and does not curb our appetite. One 12-ounce can contains 9 teaspoons of sugar, which equals about 150 empty calories.
Even if you drink diet, the calories may not be there but you are still not receiving any nutritional value, and you still have an appetite. Where as milk or fruit juices help control appetite, and have nutrients and vitamins. I knew pop was no good, but looking at these facts first makes me want to buy stock in a soda company, second makes me want to force myself to like water!
