About.com has posted a general tipping guide to follow when you travel, and eat out.
- Shuttle Driver-$1-$2 per person.
- Taxi or Limo Driver-15-20% of total fare.
- Hotel Porter-$1-$2 per bag
- Room Service-Generally 15-20% is already included in your order price to split evenly amongst kitchen staff. Anything you would give the person who brings it to you, would go directly in their pocket.
- Housekeeping-A wide range is acceptable, but anywhere between $1-5 a night is acceptable.
- Valet-$1-2 to the attendant retrieving your car.
- Restaurant Wait-staff-15-20% of your bill is still the average. Always look at your bill because some place do automatically include gratuity, especially for parties of 6 or more.
So next time you have that awkward feeling of should I tip and how much, remember this article. Does anyone else have suggestions of people to tip? What about beer vendors at ball games?
