The May/June issue of Military Spouse magazine has a fun feature about three women who have taken on a call to duty on top of their obligations as military wives and moms: running their own businesses. The piece by Kerry McGinley is called "Mom-trepreneurs: Spouses turn passions into professional success". It highlights Roxanne Reed (founder of The (all fired up) Candle Co. and Jane Wayne Gear), Susan Glosby (an instructor for Stroller Strides who has worked her way to the franchise support director position), and Tara Crooks (founder and hostess of ArmyWifeTalkRadio.com).
I was very excited to see these women featured in Military Spouse, and frankly, I'd love to see a regular column in this and similar publications about entrepreneurial Workerettes that we can all draw inspiration and encouragement from. Pulling in a franchise operator was a wonderful touch, since more and more women in business are considering franchise options in order to pursue their career dreams.
For those of you who are military wives, or are about to be, don't let the thought of frequent moves or deployments keep you from sitting down and writing a business plan and taking baby steps toward your goal of working from home or owning a business of your own. If there's any era in which military spouses can build careers that can be packed up right along with the bed linens and kids' toys, it's ours! Consider all of the options available to you thanks to today's technology; make it work for you. Don't forget to look to women like these three for ideas, encouragement, and support!

This is quite true. Years ago as a military spouse I worked for three different franchise "party plans". I made extra money for the family, earned many a birthday or Christmas gift, and made many a new friend with similar interests. South Carolina, Germany, North Carolina, Mississippi, Germany, (again!)pretty much took the business with me wherever we were stationed.
In today's world with the internet available to many people I can see the possibilities being expanded each day.
