Recently I became the author of a blog over at ClubMom.com called Stop the World - I Want to Get Off! (and it's such fun, too). ClubMom has set up a neat little private messaging system on their member profiles so that moms can get in touch with one another, and build networks based on interests and family issues, such as homeschooling, yoga, writing, single parenting, and the like. I've received several messages from other mom writers, so I made an announcement that I want to share here with you, my sister Workerettes, as well!
It seems that the blogosphere is a great place for writers. After all, we can become published instantly, building our clips files substantially with a lot fewer queries. We can be "picked up" by editors perusing blogs who are caught up in by a particular entry or by a blog author's style or expertise. It's also a place where writers can network and "meet" people with similar passions, interests, opinions and backgrounds.
While there are groups for women writers such as the NAWW (of which I'm a member, personally!) that meet the needs of professional authors, there don't seem to be quite as many that provide the support, encouragement and nurturing that women can provide to each other. Most of the groups I've seen are general writer groups or unions, or they deal with a style or genre rather than gender. I, personally, would love to hear more from other mom-writers. How about you?
If you're a mom-writer, leave me a comment here on Workerette.com or over at Stop the World. Include your email address so we can connect. I have some ideas in mind that I hope will lead to some publicity for all of us. Speaking of publicity, don't forget that you writers are eligible for a Meet & Greet interview here at Workerette.com and over at SmallBizMentor.com! Take a minute to check out the Meet & Greet archives here, and then hop over to SmallBizMentor, where I've posted some Wednesday writer tips.
