Uma Thurman Exemplifies Female Empowerment, Or Does She?

My Super Ex-Girlfriend is out in theaters today, and it is the talk of the town.  Is that because Uma Thurman is the star or is today's society really willing to accept females in this dominant role?

I know this movie is a comedy, and is just for entertainment, but will some women find that offensive?  Is the movie almost mocking the fact that women can be empowered?  USA Today describes Thurman as a "neo-feminist hero", and suggests that Hollywood is learning how to showcase women as strong characters with brawn and beauty.  But then again, giving her "super powers" could seem to be poking fun at women, making it seem almost impossible for women to be able to achieve the role of physically and emotionally dominant.

I am interested to see how this movie will do at the box office, if the public will accept it as just entertainment, or if it will be a bomb??

(Does this call for a Spoiler Warning?)

I did see this today, and it didn't strike me as particularly empowering: while clearly G-Girl (Thurman's character) holds all the strength cards, she's also painfully unsure of herself and given to spates of jealousy, neither of which conditions are likely to enhance the quality of her existence.

Still, when she's actually working as G-Girl, she's focused and energetic, which may be worth something; it may be, however, that she's trying too hard to keep her Super self and her "normal" self separated, and when the Luke Wilson character begins to back away from her, she loses whatever control she had over that separation.
