Are you starting to worry about your toddlers chubby cheeks? According to an article written by pediatricians from Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital, parents should not worry about their children's fat intake until after their second birthday. Children are growing quickly, and need fat for proper brain development.
After their second birthday, pediatricians say you can start to cut back some. Maybe give them 2% milk instead of whole, and limit the amount of juice they drink. Pre-school age is when we can start to teach our kids good eating habits. They learn from mom and dad, so teach them about carrot sticks instead of Twinkie's, and encourage plenty of physical activity. Pediatricians remind us that fat intake should still make up about 30% of the diet for most children.
Rainbow is offering free copies of a booklet titled, "Healthy Snacking." If your interested call 216-844-RAINBOW.
