Parents choose names for all sorts of reasons from tradition to their favorite athlete. But for some people it can be a truly emotional experience. Stork Avenue offers some helpful hints.
- Don't Rush! Have a few names in mind and wait until you hold your baby to see what fits best.
- Talk About It. Make it a team effort, but only to a certain degree. Don't feel pressured by family or friends, after all it is your child.
- Say It Out Loud. Does it flow well with the middle and last names? Will you have a nickname? Will kids be able to pronounce the name? Sometimes children can be cruel, so try not to choose a name that other children will make fun of.
- Make It Meaningful. Your baby's name should evoke happiness. Make it unique for your child, but not so original that no one will be able to pronounce it, or spell it, including your child.
Do you want your child to have the same name as four other people in their class?? Here are the most common names for 2005 from about.com.
