The garden experts say unfortunately, there are no absolutes when it comes to planting fall foliage. Some summers, a rainy period arrives in late August, which is prime time to plant fall flowers. But if it is dry, and excessively hot later this month, it will be better to wait until early September.
Some recommendations for what type of flowers to plant are chrysanthemums, ornamental kales, flowering cabbages, and marigolds. These are all hardy plants that can withstand a frost, and will add color to the cold!
