
Rain can make even the most confident driver get nervous or anxious. If you are prepared and take it slow, you'll feel more secure. About.com offers these tips to help you stay safe.
- Allow more travel time.
- Make sure your car is in good working condition, including windshield wipers and tires.
- Consider safety features such as stability control, traction control and all-wheel drive.
- Keep an emergency kit in the car at all times that includes first-aid supplies, bottled water, blanket, and light.
- Turn on you headlights even if it's not totally dark.
- Remember wet roads are more slippery, so leave extra space between you an other cars.
- Try and avoid standing pools of water, there could be big holes in the pavement, or you could spin or stall out.
- Do not cross running water.
- After driving through a puddle, tap your brake pedal to help dry brake rotors.
- Always watch for pedestrians running to get out of the rain.
