These are some recommendations for enhancing spiritual health and well-being from beliefnet.com.
- Pay attention to your breathing. Many cultures believe breath and spirit as the movement of spirit in the physical body. Minding your breath is a way of expanding consciousness beyond the ego.
- Connect with nature. Walk or sit in a natural setting; a city park, a reservation, near water, etc. Allow yourself to slow down and just absorb the influence of the setting.
- Make a list of people in your life who make you feel more alive, happy, and optimistic. Make an effort to spend more time with them.
- Bring flowers into your home and enjoy their beauty. I've recently been lucky enough to receive a beautiful flower arrangement and it does seem to brighten the room and gives a calming feeling when you look at them. I find myself being drawn to them every evening when I come in the door. I groom them, and enjoy their aroma.
- Stay physically active while you can. You don't have to run or walk a mile. You can do things that don't require a lot of impact such as Tai Chi, chair exercises, yoga, etc.
- Listen to inspiring music. Everyone has different types of music that inspire them for different reasons, so choose the one that gives you inspiration and enjoyment.
- Admire a work of art that raises your spirit.
- Reach out and resume a relationship with someone whom you are estranged and try and practice forgiveness.
- Do some volunteer or service work. Giving your time and energy to others is very rewarding.
- Get involved with continuing education. Take a class, attend a seminar, go to the library, do some research on the Internet, whatever it takes to help keep you learning.
Any activity that will help you enhance your physical and mental health with help you accept the fact that you are aging, but at least you are given the chance to age, others have not been so lucky.
