- Washing raw produce thoroughly.
- Defrost meat in the refrigerator or microwave, never on the counter top.
- Keep raw meat and produce away from other food to avoid cross-contamination.
- Refrigerate left-overs right after the meal.
- Wash your kitchen surfaces really well, especially if they come in contact with raw meat.
- Order beef medium-well done, and send it back if it's not cooked that way.
- Drink only pasteurized milk, juice, and cider.
- Do not drink water from lakes, streams or swimming pools.
The Center for Disease Control reports e-coli infects 73,000 people every year, and kills about 61 people in the U.S. So please help yourself stay healthy!
