According to BBC News, Alexander Schoppmann, a former stockbroker, is seeking the start-up cash for Smintair-Smoker's International Airways.
The promise is to, "bring back the exclusivity in flying encountered in the 1960's." The plan is to fly two leased Boeing 747's on the Duesseldorf-Tokyo route. The airline won't offer economy class tickets, but will target people who enjoy smoking, and who are willing to pay for some extra pampering.
The jets will accommodate 138 passengers, have extra leg room, and will have a passenger's lounge on the upper deck. There will not be a no-smoking spot on the plane, so people with allergies or that are non-smokers are asked not to fly with Smintair.
Before it can launch, the company needs to find at least 40 million euros for an operating license from the German federal aviation authority. Mr. Schoppmann is hopeful the company can take flight next summer.
To each his own, I say why not, but will he be able to make enough profit?
