Five Business Ideas on a Budget

Can you think of 10 business ideas you can start for under $20?  No..well about.com has done the thinking for you.

  1. Webpreneur.  Start by choosing a subject matter you are very familiar with.  Then, get a domain and create a website.  Find some appropriate affiliate programs, that's where the revenue will come from.  Learn everything you can about search engine marketing and promote the heck out of your site.  Lastly, make sure to always update and add new information to your site to keep people coming back.  Godaddy offers domains for $9, and cheaps.net offers a year of hosting for $10.
  2. Consultant.  Anyone can consult.  You just have to be an "expert" on a topic or in a certain field.  Networking is the key to success.  Get a box of simple line business cards printed for $20 to get started.
  3. Housesitter/Petsitter.  People feel the need for security, and house sitting offers some reassurance when people are out of town.  The same with their pets.  You just have to prove to be reliable, and trustworthy.  Compile a good set of references, then hang some flyer's up in common public areas, or place some ads in local classified sections of the newspaper.
  4. Professional Organizer.  Some people really have no idea how to get organized and stay that way.  It can be very overwhelming for many people.  If you are a very organized individual, you might consider helping others.  This is another one where you can place flyer's out in your area and take out classified ads for under $20.
  5. Avon Independent Sales Representative.  Avon boasts annual sales of nearly $6 billion, and they've been in business for over 100 years.  They've added fashion and wellness products to their cosmetic line, making them very successful.  It's a $10 sign-up fee and you can spend $10 on start-up brochures and samples.

What are some other businesses that you've been able to start-up for a reasonable amount of money?
