The Downtown Women's Club is launching new ways for women to make use of technology to network and communicate with other women in business, while preserving their "face" online. According to a recent press release, their top ten trends for what's "in" and what's "out" in networking today have a lot to do with making the most of the technology available to businesspeople everywhere.
Blending your work and your life are "in", while finding a work/life balance is "out". Because of online networking opportunities via email, online communities, IM, and the like, women in business can discuss issues and chat in real-time or at their convenience, no matter what their time zone.
"CLCs" (coffee, lunch and cocktails) are apparently "in", making sit-down dinners "out". I can certainly see where a coffee meeting would appear easier and less invasive on a working mom's family time (or her web surfing time).
What is working for you these days and what's not? Are you still relying on your handy dandy Rolodex? ("Out", in their eyes.) Working the room, or working the 'net? (Guess which one is "out" this year.) Go check out their list of "in" and "out" networking methods. If your old ways are working alright, but you'd like to branch out some, you may want to try a new trick or two from the "in" list! Some of these sound really interesting to me; let me know what new methods are working for you, too!
