We here at Workerette.com would like to take a moment to congratulate International Business Machines (NYSE: IBM) and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ) for being chosen by Working Mother as their 2006 Family Champions. In the November 2006 issue of WM, chief executives Samuel J. Palmisano (IBM) and William C. Weldon (J&J) shared ideas about achieving work/life balance, information about their companies' work/life programs, and thoughts about women leaders. Having a good six decades of combined experience with their two companies, these gents have plenty of advice to pass along to working parents, not just working moms specifically.
I love that both men assert that their jobs could be done by a properly qualified person, male or female...and that they are both positive about the makeup of their executive lists. The fact that these companies have a good percentage of female execs and they consider it "inevitable" or statistically probable that a woman could take the CEO position in their companies is encouraging. If you don't already have a copy of this issue, go grab one, if only for this article. It's an interesting read.
