The goal is to stay safe, but not stay home! Travel should be fun and exciting, not dangerous. About.com offers some great tips to take in mind when traveling.
- Carry a light. Avoid dark streets and carry a small flashlight that will help guide your way.
- Watch the crowd. Some thieves prefer crowded areas so stay alert in bus stations, during big events like parades or street events, shopping areas; places that you might let your guard down a little and not be taken off guard if someone bumps into you.
- Hide it in your bra! Sew a little pocket in your bra and keep some money or a credit card in case you are robbed, you will at least have some money.
- Don't bring the bling. Avoid wearing nice jewelry when you are out and about. Save it for dinner and dancing.
- Let the bag go. If someone does approach you for your bag, give it to them. Better the bag than you.
- Think about your attire. You don't have to look like Little Orphan Annie, but you don't have to go out looking like Princess Diana either.
Also, don't go out by yourself, always have someone with you. And, be responsible about the amount of alcohol you drink. You won't be thinking about safety if you're drunk.

Just one thing, if you are groped, do this: turn around, and scream whatever insulting words you know as loud as you can. But do be careful of a slap across you face. Girls, we have to be alert and aware of our surroundings, carry a pepperspray or anything as a weapon everywhere you go!
