7 Habits of Business Success with About.com

Some people dream of having their own successful business that will allow them financial freedom and a balanced life.  Couldn't we all be so lucky!  In reality, how do you help yourself achieve this vision, about.com gives some suggestions.

  1. Cultivate Your Inner Networks.  Take the time to identify and build relationships with key peers, mentors, and advisors.  This inner network provides support, direction, and an increased number of people to assist.
  2. Customer Centric.  You have to have an unwavering commitment to the customer.  Understand their wants and needs, and provide them that to the best of your ability.  This will earn you loyal customers.
  3. Humble Honesty.  You have to know your strengths and weaknesses.  Be open and honest with yourself and your customers as the company grows.  Don't spend time developing weaknesses.
  4. Adaptability.  Nothing ever goes as planned so always be able to think quick and adjust.  Being flexible allows us to respond to changes without being paralyzed with fear and uncertainty.
  5. Opportunity Focused.  Problems are a regular part of business life.  To achieve success, look at both sides of the coin because every problem has an opportunity.
  6. Find a Better Way.  Productivity is the cornerstone to business.  Formulate the habit of finding a better way to make your business more productive.  This will create opportunity for you to focus on critical issues that drive sales.
  7. Balanced Lifestyle.  It's easy to allow the business to take control of your life.  Business success requires the habit of balancing all aspects.  Take time to plan each week, do daily tasks, but also allow free time for yourself.

Choose one thing to focus on at a time until you incorporate each one.  Does anyone have advice that is not listed?

Surround yourself with great people. If you aren't a great sales person, surround yourself with one. If you are a creative type, surround yourself with a great business manager.

If you ask me, I'd put #6 first. Because I think we are all striving for improving ourselves or at least that's where we should start working first, when we want to increase productivity.
