Today, March 8, 2007 is International Women's Day. The most remarkable thing about this day to me is the date of it's beginning's. In 1908, 15,000 women marched demanding equal opportunites, including better pay and voting rights. Then in 1909, National Women's Day was observed across the US, and other countries.
Now IWD is an official holiday in Armenia, Russia, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, and several other countries. It's definitely encouraging for women, especially workerette's, to be recognized on some level as equals. It also makes me realize how long we've been trying to gain the respect we deserve.
Keep fighting the good fight ladies!
