Workerette.com would like to congratulate the winners of the First Annual Smart Cookie Awards, as featured in the May/June 2007 edition of Cookie magazine. All of these women have accomplished much through their hard work, compassion, and willingness to put themselves in front of the public for the causes they are passionate about. They are role models to us all!
However, as I read the article and learned about what each winner has done I wondered: who else (if anyone) was nominated? How were these selections made? I'm seeing mostly actresses among the winners, which is somewhat exciting, because it's proof to me that sometimes I underestimate the folks in Hollywood. However, I'd love to see the next set of awards go to an even better mix of "real" women. Doctors, lawyers, models, stay-at-home moms, entrepreneurs, politicians, and students. We women can do anything (right, Barbie?), so why not remind us that the readers of Cookie can accomplish great things, even as we drool over the pages of a magazine that tempts us with all the sweet things we can buy for our children and ourselves? It doesn't take millions to start a foundation, and it doesn't take an actress to be a foundation's face. Every day, in every nation, Workerettes (moms, grandmas, daughters, wives, single moms; women of all races, religions, and creeds) are making a difference. Bring in more winners next time, please! Inspire us to even greater heights!
That said, here's the list of winners for 2007:
