I think all of us Workerettes would qualify under the category of being super busy women, don't you? That's why I was delighted to see a nice long list of Health's picks for this year's healthiest new foods in their May 2007 issue. After all, it's hard enough trying to wade through all the new stuff that comes out, and you don't want to waste your time and money trying to figure out what's worth it and what isn't.
Health has done the work for us, thanks to the help of a judging panel including a food industry expert, a cooking author, taste-tester, and a nutritionist. They hit everything from breakfast and snacks to meal replacements and beverages. Best of all the print magazine has a pre-written grocery list for you to clip out. I'm going to give you the heads-up on my favorite ten from the list, but I highly encourage you to go grab a copy of the May Health magazine so you can learn about the rest of their picks and give 'em a shot!![]()
My ten picks from their list of "best of" products are:
- Nabisco Wheat Thins Toasted Chips, Multi-Grain (we got a big bag of the Vegetable ones at Costco recently and everyone in the family loved them!)
- Skinny Cow Chocolate Ice Cream Cone (We stock up on Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches at Costco too. Yum!)
- Campbell's Select Healthy Request, Mexican Style Chicken Tortilla Soup (all I can say is "Mm, mm, GOOD!" I like to serve it with blue corn chips just for colorful fun.)
- Lender's New York Style 100% Whole Wheat Bagels (My hubby is a huge whole wheat fan, and he's converted me on bagels, at least. I'll still take my fortified white bread though. heh heh)
- Frito-Lay 100 Calorie Mini Bites Sun Chips, Harvest Cheddar (Harvest Cheddar Sun Chips don't last long with my husband. I like to stock up when they are on sale and divy them up into my own serving-size bags though.)
- Kellogg's Crunchy Nut Sweet and Salty Granola Bar, Chocolatey Peanut (The rest of the family really enjoys the Sweet and Salty Peanut Bars; I'm now pulling to try this chocolate version. I can't wait!)
- Stonyfield Farm Light Smoothie, Wild Berry (It's organic, thanks to Stonyfield, and it's low-cal. How can you beat it?)
- Kashi All-Natural Entrees, Black Bean Mango (We're into mango lately; I was drooling over the photo of this one. Must be preggo hormones!)
- V-8's V-Fusion, Peach Mango (More mango! Hubby is into V-8 and I can't even stomach the smell of the stuff, but this sounds more than palatable thanks to the fruit!)
- Archer Farms Southwest Blend side dish (Steam it in the bag in only six minutes? Sounds like something to serve my baked tilapia on, frankly!)
One more reason to pick up the magazine right away: purchase one of three certain products featured on the grocery list and you can get a free shopping bag. Perfect for hitting the grocery store, farmers market, or beach with! I think my pick will be the Vitalicious Deep Chocolate muffin mix. Yum!
